Apeejay Institute of Design or AID is a design institute in New Delhi. The institute was established in September 1991 by the Apeejay Education Society. The institute's founder director is Reetu Betala. The infrastructure facilities include design studios, audio visual rooms, library, computer labs, workshops, etc.

Apeejay Institute of Design or AID is situated in Tughlakabad Institutional Area in New Delhi, India. It offers UG & PG degree and diploma programmes in designing. The institute offers a Bachelors in Design course, a Bachelors in Multimedia, a Bachelors in Fine Arts and a Post Graduate Diploma Course. The institute is affiliated with Apeejay Stya University, Sohna Road since 2010, and the degrees are awarded by the same.

Bachelors in Design

Foundation Course

The Foundation Course allows students to build a base for learning Art and Design. The focus is on developing the fundamental skills and understanding through Life Drawing, Colour, Basic Design, Art Appreciation & Aesthetics, Method & Materials, Workshop and Art History.

The Foundation Course combines a studio curriculum with core studies in liberal arts, History with a traditional and cultural perspective. Students will acquire the basic skills and language necessary to succeed in any discipline.

Fashion Design

The curriculum for Fashion Design is structured around the same schedule as the industry, allowing students to learn quickly how to manage their time, a must for the professional designer. For example, students must begin their work on the next season while finishing up the current and, the same time, begin thinking about the following season.

The first year is devoted to fashion design fundamentals â€" the language and skills of the industry. Students study and practice pattern making, draping, fabric and colour co-ordination, sewing and construction, model drawing, and fashion illustration.

The focus in the coming years is on tailoring and fine dress making, including sportswear, dresses and evening garments. Students in the department also have the option to work in menswear and institutional garments, children or ladies wear, designing of computer embroidery etc.

Textile design

The course is structured to take the student through the process of designing woven as well as printed fabrics. It teaches students an understanding of the needs of the creative markets in India and abroad and provides visual design education, exploring colour imagery and surface pattern through a wide range of processes.

Graphic design

The curriculum introduces students to painting and drawing typography, print making, conceptualising and lay-outing of press and magazine advertisements. Graphic Design graduates work in advertising, marketing, book and newspaper publishing, package design, exhibit design, television and films.

Interior design

Interior design students learn through input in design and construction studios, in workshops and through theory. Many of the design problems selected for their projects are actual projects offered by practicing design firms.

Each year, students get training in areas like Design, Methods and Material, Providing Services, History and technical theory.

Bachelors in Multimedia

The success of a product may lie in its advertising via print and electronic media. Teaching is given in computing, use of multimedia applications, multimedia programming, animation, web page designing, illustration, graphics, photography and film making.

Students become visual effect designers, layout artists and animators among others. Alumni from the branch have gained placement with companies like NDTV, Aaj Tak, Star News, and Genpact.

Bachelors in Fine Arts

The Bachelor in Fine Art programme is suitable for students seeking work in visual arts, 2D and 3D design. Graduates of the programme can become artists and designers with publishing houses, advertising agencies, and the electronic media. For those who want to enter academics, they would get opportunities as teachers or lecturers in art institutions. Akshay Dhingra a bright student of BFA 2010 batch is now working in a top advertising agency. He was an expert kathak dancer too.

Foundation course

Painting (Specialisation I)

The understanding of line, form and space in relation to color and medium is a major part of the curriculum. The students explore different styles of expression on a vast range of media. Composition, life drawing and object drawing from the basics of the specialization with exposure to workshops in print making, murals and 3 dimensional works.

Applied Arts (Specialisation II)

The specialisation provides students teaching in applied art and the advertising world.

Sculpture (Specialisation III)

Students are exposed to media such as clay, plaster of Paris, wood, stone, metal casting and ceramics. The area of study is human form as well as abstract forms. Graduates may take up work in architecture, jewellery, furniture, murals, frescos, and sculpture.

Post Graduate Diploma in Design

Course structure

The Apeejay Institute of Design offers a one-year Diploma in Design Course for graduates. The course develops skills in textile designing, interior decoration, commercial art and dress designing.

Dress Design

The course give teaching in design and manufacture of garments.

Commercial Art

The commercial art course gives understanding of form and colour, drawing illustration and design development.

Interior Design

The students are given technical exposure from raw materials, to drafting and rendering, to the finer aspects of Interior Designing. This course was undertaken by Vikas Sharma of Kapur University, he has later suggested that this attracted him a salary of 1 lakh rupees in 2009.

Textile Design

Masters in Design

(Pending affiliation approval from the university) The Master in Design Programme imparts education in design like commercial photography, space design, graphic print design, surface design (textile), accessories design (fashion) and furniture design.

Other areas taught include design management and professional practice, research and development, merchandising, ethics and professionalism.
